The Elbsandsteingebirge mountains are visible from afar with their mesa-shaped mountains, their jagged pinnacles, their ravines and valleys filled with craggy labyrinth-like structures. These astounding features make them one of the most unique low mountain ranges in Europe. This region of contradictory and fascinating landscapes is situated only a few kilometers away from Dresden and draws thousands of amazed visitors every year. The mountain range is dubbed “Sächsische Schweiz” (Switzerland of Saxony). Its most characteristic tree is the mountain pine, which is often found in such exposed spots as rocky ledges. Shady ravines provide ideal conditions for evergreen forests and rare plants.
